Boros Gets Unique New Legendary Spirit Soldier In Commander Legends

Take a look at a new take on Boros legends as well as an iconic white reprint.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC), check out a new legendary Spirit Soldier for Boros from Commander Legends — Bell Borca, Spectral Sergeant!

According to his lore, Bell Borca was killed by a bomb but came back as a ghost to solve his own murder thanks to buying an Orzhov life insurance plan. Now the Soldier from the Boros Legion is back as a Spirit Soldier with a unique ability that plays into his lore.

Note the converted mana cost of each card as it’s put into exile.

Bell Borca, Spectral Sergeant’s power is equal to the greatest number noted for it this turn.

Break out the pen and paper when playing with Bell Borca, as you’ll be tasked with keeping note of exiled cards to figure out the constant changing power. Bell Borca is a wildly different legend for the Boros colors than ever seen before that doesn’t really care about combat, outside of simple attacking and blocking. He does play better with cards that exile, whether that be cards that exile your own cards for value or blinking or for removing opponents’ cards through removal.

Bell Borca’s final ability allows him to always have new fodder to keep his power changing.

At the beginning of your upkeep, exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn.

Red mages are familiar with this card-advantage engine and it pulls double duty for Bell Borca. On top of updating the power of your commander, you also get to effectively draw two cards per turn. Bell Borca is all about exiling cards, so it’s only fitting an iconic card that does just that was also previewed alongside him.

Swords to Plowshares returns with the art only used on the foil judge promo version of the most-storied white removal spell in Magic history. Now you can get the art in non-foil as well as with a new extended art frame. Combine this with Bell Borca to remove a massive threat and enable a huge attack.

What do you think of this new take on a Boros Commander? What’s the most fun way to exile cards on a repeatable basis?
