Blue Gets Modal Double-Faced Mythic In Sea Gate Restoration

Modal mythic offers two great deals of drawing cards or making a land drop.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Luca Van Deun, take a look at the blue mythic rare modal double-faced card from Zendikar Rising — Sea Gate Restoration!

There is nothing more blue than making land drops and drawing cards, so it’s fitting the mythic blue modal DFC does both.

Draw cards equal to the number of cards in your hand plus one. You have no maximum hand size for the rest of the game.

Sea Gate Restoration is a late-game boon for control decks looking to maximize on drawing cards. On top the ability of drawing some cards, this sorcery comes with the extra clause from Reliquary Tower giving you the benefit of having no maximum hand size. Of course, if you haven’t reached seven mana or the stage of the game to refill, the back side has you covered.

As Sea Gate, Reborn enters the battlefield, you may pay 3 life. If you don’t, it enters the battlefield tapped.

A deck looking to go long always needs to make its land drops and Sea Gate, Reborn does that as well. Three life is a lot to give up for an untapped blue source, but it also happens to be the same amount of life Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath gains. Not to mention the life isn’t an issue if Uro is just ramping you on a turn. The question will be whether Sea Gate, Reborn belongs in non-Simic blue decks.
