Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and edIT, check out a new black edict effect that tags creatures, enchantments, and planeswalkers from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty — Invoke Despair!
Black has always had good removal for creatures and planeswalkers, but recently it has gained access to removing enchantments and Invoke Despair is another card that can do all of that. Check it out in its normal version, a soft glow variant, and the bundle promo version.
Target opponent sacrifices a creature. If they can’t, they lose 2 life and you draw a card. Then repeat this process for an enchantment and a planeswalker.
While it comes at a hefty cost of five mana, including four black, Invoke Despair will always be a three-for-one in some fashion. Taking out a creature, planeswalker, and enchantment is great, but so is killing a creature and drawing two cards while draining your opponent for 4 life. With the card draw clause, Invoke Despair can never be a blank, having a floor of a black version of Tidings with six damage of burn attached to it. In a game of Commander, it can also be more flexible as you pick which opponent gets you the outcome you prefer.
So what do you think of Invoke Despair? Is it a future Standard player or more of a multiplayer staple? Let us know what you think in the comments.
