Vampire Nighthawk has been a fan favorite for years since debuting in Zendikar, but this new take offers the chance to grow to much higher power totals than before. Nighthawk Scavenger still has the powerful trio of keywords with the starting line of “flying, deathtouch, lifelink” but gets a Tarmogoyf-esque line of rules text for its power.
Nighthawk Scavenger’s power is equal to 1 plus the number of card types among cards in your opponents’ graveyards.
While the original Vampire Nighthawk was always a 2/3, Nighthawk Scavenger hits the battlefield a bit weaker, but equals or surpasses the predecessor with any help from an opponent. It also includes all opponents, so it has a much higher ceiling in a multiplayer game.
On top of a rarity shift from uncommon to rare from the original version, Nighthawk Scavenger swaps the creature type Vampire Shaman to Vampire Rogue to help out with the party mechanic in Zendikar Rising.
