Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC), take a look at this black mythic rare Zombie from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt — Tainted Adversary!
Deathtouch
When Tainted Adversary enters the battlefield, you may pay 2B any number of times. When you pay this cost one or more times, put that many +1/+1 counters on Tainted Adversary, then create twice that many 2/2 black Zombie creature tokens with decayed.
Clearly Champion of the Perished’s best friend, Tainted Adversary is a strongly statted two-mana 2/3 with deathtouch, making it a likely auto-include in Mono-Black Aggro and Zombie tribal decks.
Part of the set’s pseudo-kicker cycle, when Tainted Adversary enters the battlefield, you can choose to pay 2B any number of times and it will not only gain that many +1/+1 counters, but also net you double that many Zombie tokens. Typically you wouldn’t want to draw a two-drop later in the game, but thanks to this ability, it becomes a reasonable mana sink.
So what do you think of Tainted Adversary? Will Zombie tribal be a contender in Midnight Hunt Standard? Let us know what you think in the comments!
