Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and MTGNerdGirl, check out the newest modal double-faced God from Kaldheim — Egon, God of Death / Throne of Death!
Deathtouch
At the beginning of your upkeep, exile two cards from your graveyard. If you can’t, sacrifice Egon and draw a card.
A three mana 6/6, Egon can most reasonably be compared to Rotting Regisaur; a high-power, low-cost threat that can quickly close out games if gone unchecked. While Egon does require you to exile two cards from your graveyard per turn to keep him on the battlefield, it’s fairly easy to meet these requirements with the right deckbuilding, and even if you cannot pay his upkeep cost, you still get to draw a card when Egon dies.
At the beginning of your upkeep, mill a card.
2B, T: Exile a creature card from your graveyard. Draw a card.
On Egon’s flip side, we have Throne of Death, a one-mana artifact that provides a consistent source of mill to help fill your graveyard. Since it’s so cheap to play, you can easily play it on Turn 1 or 2 before curving into Egon himself. Plus, Throne of Death can also be activated later in the game for a reasonable three mana to draw a card.
So what do you think of Egon, God of Death / Throne of Death? Will he be Standard’s next Rotting Regisaur? Let us know in the comments below!
