Birrell earned an invite to the Kaldheim Championship and $1,500 by winning the 282-person event, dropping a single match to the No. 1 seed Urase Ryosuke in the last round of the Swiss. Birrell carved through the elimination rounds with Esper Doom Foretold (Yorion) as nine of the Top 12 decks were either Gruul Adventures or Mono-Green Food.

Birrell’s path to the title required wins over Renato Spinelli (Gruul Adventures), David Steinberg (Mono-Green Food), and Fabian Rogatschnig (Gruul Adventures). The only other non-The Great Henge decks in the Top 12 were Kosuke Nakamoto on Dimir Control (Yorion) and Ronald Muller on Esper Doom Foretold (Yorion), who both lost in the Playoff Wild Card round.
