Barclay went 12-3 to reach the Top 8, not dropping a single match in Historic with his Azorius Control deck — an off-meta choice with only nine pilots in the event. Barclay sliced through the Top 8 bracket made up of six Sultai/Four-Color Midrange decks and one copy of Mono-Red Goblins.
Barclay reached the championship match by defeating Luca Magni on Four-Color Midrange 2-1, Brad Nelson on Four-Color Midrange 2-1, and Autumn Burchett on Mono-Red Goblins 2-1. Burchett returned from the lower bracket to face Barclay in the championship match, where either player had to win two of three possible matches. Barclay continued his winning ways, leveraging Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and friends to claim two more matches and the title.
