Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced they will be changing over the Wizards Play Network (WPN) Premium qualifications to a new, tier-based system.
Over the last few years, the amount of local game stores participating in Wizards Play Network has increased exponentially to a point WotC feels it has outgrown the current “snapshot” application process and no longer fully reflects “…how different stores operate and grow.”
Under the new tier-based system, each store’s performance will be measured quarterly through metric analysis with the goal of rewarding stores for “…consistency and real player engagement rather than single events or short-term spikes.” Moving away from the one-time application process, recognition will be evaluated on “standard calendar quarters rather than from the date a store joins the WPN or reaches a specific tier…” and benefits that were “previously exclusive to WPN Premium” will now be incorporated into specific tiers. WotC provided the table below to highlight what WPN benefits will be available at each tier.

Tiered benefits will also extend to Magic: The Gathering, MTG Arena, Magic Companion App, and Dungeons & Dragons as well.

A full breakdown of each set of benefits can be viewed here.
Timeline-wise, WotC aims to rollout the updated framework in full by the end of this year, although timing may vary by region. At launch, the standalone title of “WPN Premium” will no longer exist, however stores who have already reached WPN Premium status will be automatically granted Legendary badging (Tier 6) for the Q4 2026 and Q1 2027 evaluation periods.
