Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has announced that the upcoming Magic: The Gathering sets Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth and Wilds of Eldraine will continue to prioritize tabletop Prereleases and support same-day product sales.

When The Brothers War debuted back in November, WotC shifted the focus of Prerelease back to tabletop, as digital Prereleases had previously taken priority during the the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This change also let players purchase and open that set’s product on Prerelease weekend for the first time. WotC then followed up these changes with a new rule which decreed that, starting with the launch of Phyrexia: All Will Be One, cards opened during Prerelease events would be legal for sanctioned play immediately.

Today’s announcement solidifies those changes and we can expect them to stick around for Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth in June and at least through Q3 with the release of Wilds of Eldraine.
