United Kingdom Gamer Plans 24 Hour Tabletop MTG Marathon For Charity

MTG fan to put his love of the game to the test in 24 hour marathon for charity

A man from Bedlington, England is planning to do a 24 hour, tabletop Magic: The Gathering marathon to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Davey Gair took up Magic about a year ago after he and his wife were searching for more advanced board games to enjoy together. He says the pair purchased some preconstructed decks and he was hooked right away. Gair, a survivor of bowel cancer, came up with the idea for the marathon after deciding he wanted to do something within his power to help eradicate cancer.

“I have never been particularly athletic and I’m currently extremely unfit… [so] I had the idea of accessing my inner geek.”

The marathon is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 3, and will be hosted at his local game store, Northumbrian Tin Soldier. The event will be live streamed here, and on one more platform yet to be decided. Players local to the area are encouraged to stop in and challenge Gair, who will be playing with Magic’s Doctor Who preconstructed decks, in commemoration of the British classic’s 60th anniversary.

Those interested in making a contribution to cause can visit Gair’s Go Fund Me page, where he has already raised nearly £900.
