SCG CON Philadelphia is in the books! Check out all the winners over the weekend and the decklists from the Magic: The Gathering events.

Modern $10K

Michael Debenedetto-Plummer won the Modern $10K on Saturday with Esper Reanimator.

Debenedetto-Plummer won the main event with the breakout deck of the weekend, an Esper Reanimator deck utilizing Goryo’s Vengeance to put Atraxa, Grand Unifier on the battlefield with haste, then targeting the Phyrexian Angel with Ephemerate or Momentary Blink to double up on the creature’s ETB and leave it on the battlefield permanently. The deck also has the backup plan of using either of the blink effects with Grief to disrupt the opponent early and establish a must-kill threat. Debenedetto-Plummer defeated his friend, Vincent Vitanza, on the same deck (with a slightly different sideboard) in the finals. A third copy of Esper Reanimator made the Top 16, giving it more copies in the Top 16 than the cascade decks combined.

The win marks Debenedetto-Plummer’s second major SCG CON win in the past six months, with a Modern $5K win in Pittsburgh in November with a four-color Up the Beanstalk control deck. He also finished in third place in Sunday’s Modern $5K with the same Esper Reanimator deck.

Debenedetto-Plummer earned $2,000 for first place and Vitanza $1,000 for second. Both finalists earned invites to the Regional Championship at DreamHack Dallas in May.

Modern $5K

Rachel Feingersh won the first of two Modern $5Ks on the weekend with Golgari Yawgmoth.

Feingersh won the Friday Modern $5K, which boasted a diverse Top 8 including decks like Merfolk, Mono-Black Control, Mono-White Martyr, and Rakdos Death’s Shadow. Feingersh beat Gao Shang in the finals to claim the $1,500 first-place prize and the invite to the Regional Championship at DreamHack Dallas in May.

Modern $5K

Julien Henry won the Modern $5K on Sunday with Amulet Titan.

Henry prevented another event from being won by Esper Reanimator, by taking down the Sunday Modern $5K with Amulet Titan — the only player in the Top 4 not on the Goryo’s Vengeance-fueled menace. Henry defeated Michael Mapson in the finals and Debenedetto-Plummer in the semis. Henry took home $1,500 and an invite to the Regional Championship at DreamHack Dallas in May.

Legacy $5K

Patrick Owens won the Legacy $5K on Sunday with Grixis Delver.

Owens navigated a Top 8 filled with four copies of Dimir Reanimator, two copies of Storm, a single copy of Domain Beanstalk Control to win with the latest version of Delver. The Grixis build of Delver takes advantage of Orcish Bowmasters, Dragon’s Rage Channeler, and Murktide Regent along with the usual counterspells and removal the archetype has been known for over the past decade.

Battle Hardened

Caleb Engen won the Flesh and Blood Classic Constructed Battle Hardened on Saturday with Uzuri, Switchblade.

Engen emerged from a Top 8 featuring a Calling winner, Pro Tour runner-up, and one of the best players in the game to win with an overlooked Assassin hero from Outsiders. Engen defeated Joshua Borger, on Kano, Dracai of Aether, in the finals to claim the gold foil legendary prize card. Both finalists earned $500, a PTI, and an exclusive playmat.

Only six players in the event registered Uzuri, but two made the Top 8. Zero copies of Kayo, Armed and Dangerous — the most played hero in the event — reached the elimination rounds.

Professional Tournament Invitational

Caleb Van Patton won the Classic Constructed Professional Tournament Invitational on Sunday with Kano, Dracai of Aether.

Van Patton, a longtime Wizard player also known as his online handle of MajiinBae, was one of four players on Kano in the tournament. Of those four, the final two players were both on the original Wizard from Flesh and Blood. Van Patton defeated Nathaniel Snyder in the mirror match finals to win a PTI, a gold foil prize card, and 1,500 prize wall tickets.

Decklists for both events will be posted on the Flesh and Blood decklists page later this week.

SCG CON returns with more Magic: The Gathering and Flesh and Blood action in Atlanta on April 12-14.
