Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has released their weekly MTG Arena update that includes details on the release of Streets of New Capenna, launch of Explorer, upcoming events, and more.
Streets of New Capenna Releases Tomorrow
Magic’s latest set drops on MTG Arena tomorrow along with all the usual fun, including Traditional and Premier Drafts, Sealed events, pack bundles, card styles, and more. Update the client tomorrow afternoon and jump into the Streets of New Capenna.
Explorer Format Launches Tomorrow
While players have been able to brew and build decks for Explorer since last week, the new format launches tomorrow on MTG Arena. This means players can jump into events or the ranked ladder for Best-Of-One or Best-Of-Three action. This non-rotating, true-to-tabletop format is the start of getting Pioneer on the client, so get up to speed on the format now as the Explorer Metagame Challenge comes to MTG Arena on May 6-9.
Rise of the Five Families Festival Starts Soon
Five special events celebrating each family from Streets of New Capenna will start on May 12 and run through June 2, allowing players to earn golden age showcase card styles and other prizes. Each event will use Best-Of-One Alchemy Singleton with a twist via a new emblem for each event. Entry fee for each event is 2,500 gold or 500 gems. The first two events have been previewed so far.
Rise of the Maestros, May 12-15
Players will have an emblem that reads, “Once during each of your turns, you may cast an instant or sorcery spell from your graveyard by sacrificing a creature in addition to paying its other costs. If a spell cast this way would be put into your graveyard, exile it instead.”

- Corpse Appraiser
- Cormela, Glamour Thief
- Hostile Takeover
- Maestros Ascendancy
Rise of the Obscura, May 15-18
Players will have an emblem that reads, “Whenever you attack, target attacking creature connives.”

- Queza, Augur of Agonies
- Void Rend
