Following preview season tradition, Magic: The Gathering Head Designer, Mark Rosewater, has shared a list of teasers for the upcoming set – The Lost Caverns of Ixalan – to his Blogatog.
Rosewater kicks things off with some partial hints, including an new land subtype, a classic aura gets a new name and a casting cost discount, and a sorcery from Tempest gets reimagined as an “enters the battlefield” ability.
Next up, we’ve got some never-before-seen creature types, including Dinosaur Gnome, Salamander Wurm, Skeleton Spirit Pirate, and the coolest so far – Capybara. We also get a look at new rules text, showcasing some unique abilities:
• “When there are 1,000 or more time counters on CARDNAME, sacrifice it and each opponent loses 1,000 life.”
• “Whenever you’re dealt combat damage, the attacking player gains control of CARDNAME and untaps it.”
• “As an additional cost to cast this spell, tap four untapped artifacts, creatures, and/or land you control.”
• “Then destroy all other creatures if its power is exactly 20.”
Closing things out, Rosewater provided the names of a few cards from the set, something which he hasn’t done before.

• Calamitous Cave-In
• Careening Mine Cart
• Chupacabra Echo
• Diamond Pick-Axe
