MTG Head Designer Shares Teaser For Foundations

Mark Rosewater shares his hints for Magic’s next set, Foundations

Omniscience illustrated by Josh Hass

Following preview season tradition, Magic: The Gathering Head Designer, Mark Rosewater, has shared a teaser for Foundations to his Blogatog.

While each bullet provides a partial hint for things to come within the set, a few of the more interesting details include the reprinting of a Magic Invitational winner’s card, two monocolor reprints, each of a different color, that together win you the game, and a creature with seven evergreen keywords. Some players have already speculated that Snapcaster Mage could be the Invitational card reprint, while others joking point out that Splinter Twin and Deceiver Exarch could be the monocolor reprints that win the game when played together.

Some tidbits of rules text that appears on cards includes: “Double the number of each kind of counter”, “A deck can have any number of cards named”, and “You can’t lose the game and your opponents can’t win the game.” The last of those three could be a potential Platinum Angel reprint, while the text of “target instant or sorcery card in your graveyard gains flashback until end of turn” can also point toward Snapcaster Mage.

Additionally, Rosewater shared several of the creature types being included in the set: Creature – Shark Pirate, Creature – Hyena Rogue, Creature – Bear Demon, and Legendary Creature – Zombie Warlock.

And lastly, the names of cards listed don’t reference any reprints or previous versions of cards like Duskmourn’s “The Meathook Massacre II.”

So what do you think of Rosewater’s teaser? Are there any specific hints that stick out to you? Let us know your theories!
