Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair Reveals Drops By Laura Plansker, Phoebe Wahl

More drops from the Equinox Superdrop have been revealed

Magic: The Gathering’s Secret Lair accounts have previewed two drops within the Equinox Superdrop, featuring the work of diorama artist Laura Plansker and children’s author and illustrator Phoebe Wahl.

Laura Plansker’s Diabolical Dioramas

Laura Plansker‘s eccentric, unsettling art focuses on what she calls “photo-dioramas,” miniature staged environments that she can manipulate to create a form of stop-motion animation. For her Diabolical Dioramas drop, Plansker not only illustrated the cards themselves with single images of dioramas, she created a series of short videos posted to Secret Lair’s Instagram and X/Twitter accounts that put those scenes into motion. Of the three cards previewed before the official release, a three-eyed cat shreds a sitting room on Aura Shards, Artisan Fiend tries to sell bones out of a cart, and Gravebreaker Lamia brings back a sword-swallower whose act went wrong.

Featuring: Phoebe Wahl

Phoebe Wahl is an illustrator and author of children’s books who lives in Wizards of the Coast (WotC)’s home state of Washington. Her drop contains five cards — Alela, Artful Provocateur; Dockside Chef; Door of Destinies; Faerie Artisans; and Swords to Plowshares — all featuring her flattened and whimsical art that takes the viewer back into the gentle world of early reading.

The Plansker and Wahl drops are part of the larger Equinox Superdrop, which also includes a trio of Fallout-themed drops and the tarot-inspired Artist Series: Rovina Cai.

The Equinox Superdrop will be available later today on the MTG Secret Lair website.
