Ichikawa, in his sixth top finish since debuting at Pro Tour Dragon’s Maze in 2013, shined on the Sunday stage as the Pro Tour Top 8 featured Draft for the first time in more than a decade. The pro from Team Moriyama Japan made the top cut with a record of 8-2 in Modern with Simic Neoform and 4-2 in Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes Draft.

With Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes Draft on display all weekend, Ichikawa leaned into a green deck early in the Top 8 draft, taking Undercover Skrull over Hawkeye, Master Marksman P1P1. His deck turned out to be a mostly-green deck, with red removal and two copies of Hulk, Gamma Goliath along with a black splash for The Ruinous Wrecking Crew.

Ichikawa defeated Alex Rohan in the quarterfinals and Timo Bertram in the semis, with both matches going the full five games, to advance to the finals against Italy’s Lorenzo Gruppi. Gruppi drafted a white and black deck splashing blue and green for cards like Killmonger, Scourge of Wakanda and Captain America, Living Legend.

This match was the opposite of Ichikawa’s first two Top 8 matches, with Ichikawa rattling off a dominant three-game run to add a third premier event trophy to his collection. On a weekend where the Magic Pro Tour Hall of Fame was revived, Ichikawa made a great case for himself with a sixth top finish and another title to go with his Innistrad Set Championship from 2021 and a win from the 2017 MTG Pro Tour Team Series Championship, where he won alongside Ken Yukuhiro and Kentaro Yamamoto.

Ichikawa earned $50,000 for the win, while the Top 8 players also punched their tickets to the next Magic World Championship.
