San Diego Comic-Con kicks off its annual, four-day celebration of all things pop culture next week, and will feature a First Look panel for Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man.
Scheduled to release on September 26, Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man will be the second Standard-legal Universes Beyond set, following Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY, which has already become the best-selling Magic set of all time.
According to the Comic-Con schedule, the First Look panel will show off new cards and artwork from the set, and hosts Mark Rosewater, C. B. Cebulski, Aaron Forsythe, and Sarah Wassell, will share insights on the set’s design, vision, and more.
While we eagerly await the Magic debut of fan-favorite characters from the Spider-Man multiverse, it is important to note that the physical cards from this set will appear differently on Magic’s digital platforms.
Back in April, Wizards of the Coast (WotC) announced that the “future of digital Magic and Universes Beyond products will be handled differently on a set-by-set basis.” While some Universes Beyond sets like MTG—FINAL FANTASY and Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender will mirror their physical counterparts on MTG Arena and Magic Online, others may need to be converted to Universes Within versions which are mechanically identical but feature new, Magic artwork. These digital-only reskin sets will be known as Through the Omenpaths and will begin with the release of Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man in September.
Those attending Comic-Con can catch the panel live on Friday, July 25 starting at 12:30 PM PDT in the San Diego Convention Center Room 5AB. Information on whether the panel will be live streamed or recorded has not been provided at this time.
