Bounty For MTG’s Serialized 001/001 The One Ring Passes $2 Million

Spanish game stores raises the bar for The One Ring bounty

The One Ring illustrated by Marta Nael

Last Wednesday, Dave and Adam’s Card World set the bar at $1 million for the 001/001 serialized The One Ring card from The Lord Of The Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. Less than a week later, that offer has been doubled by Gremio de Dregones.

Serialized cards and single-copy printings are not new to Magic, the 001/001 The One Ring will be the first serialized card where only one is available in existence. Naturally, this phenomena has sparked a firestorm of interested among not only Magic players, but fans of The Lord Of The Rings, high-fantasy collectors, and beyond. With so many fandoms involved, the search for what many are calling “Willy Wonka’s golden ticket” is sure to be legendary, and the reward equally so.

Spain-based game store, Gremio de Dregones, has offered a bounty of €2 million ($2,152,690.32 USD), plus travel and accommodation expenses in Valencia. The offer is listed on the companies website and while no expiration date is listed, the posting is marked as a limited-time offer and only valid if the card is in good condition.

While the majority of treasure hunters will surely be after the fortune, there is also a dedicated minority who are determined to acquire The One Ring for more lore-driven purpose: To travel to and active volcano and throw Magic’s rarest card into it.

So what would you do if you opened the 001/001 The One Ring? Quietly accept your new-found fortune? Bask in the limelight for a bit before selling it? Or would you make Frodo and Sam proud by embarking on a journey to dispose of it the way Tolkien intended? Join the conversation and let us know over on our Facebook and Twitter.

The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth is scheduled to release on June 23. View our official preview gallery or preorder the set now from Star City Games.
