Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has released their weekly MTG Arena update that includes details on the upcoming release of Alchemy: Kamigawa, event updates, and the latest State of the Game address.
Alchemy: Kamigawa Hits MTG Arena Tomorrow
The release of Alchemy: Kamigawa is only a day away. The launch of the 30-card supplementary set that impacts Alchemy and Historic will include packs, bundles, and events. Alchemy: Kamigawa packs cost 1,000 gold and a 15-pack bundle is available for 3,000 gems. The Into the Future event will also start tomorrow, allowing players to earn Alchemy Individual Card Rewards (ICRs) and Mastery Pass XP for free by playing with preconstructed decks. Jump in, try out some of the new cards from the set, and earn your three win awards. The event runs until March 17.
There will also be at least three cosmetic bundles for sale in the shop starting tomorrow. Be on the lookout for the Tamiyo Compleat bundle, Koi Pet bundle, Spirited Companion bundle, and more.
State of the Game Updates
Megan O’Malley and Jay Parker wrote the State of the Game announcement, covering the launch of Alchemy: Kamigawa, a new digital-only mechanic, an Alchemy Metagame Challenge, and updates to the MTG Arena play blade.
Intensity is a new mechanic that shows up on two cards from Alchemy: Kamigawa. Check out Bellowsbreath Ogre and Runaway Growth.
Cards will have a starting intensity level that perpetually changes as you meet the requirement on the card to increase the intensity. The card’s rules text will change on the card as the level of intensity changes. On top of the two cards in Alchemy: Kamigawa, Static Discharge is also getting a rework to use the new mechanic.
The first Alchemy Metagame Challenge will kick off on March 25 and run through March 28. Players bring their best traditional Alchemy decks and play until they reach seven wins or one loss. Players receive the Neon Ogre Mask sleeve upon entering the event.
Entry fee for the event is 2,000 gold or 400 gems and awards gold and Alchemy: Kamigawa packs. The prizes can be seen below:
