Bryan Gottlieb, Senior Game Designer and Lead Developer for Flesh and Blood, gave the keynote address at the Pro Tour in Amsterdam today, previewing heroes and cards from Rosetta, announcing more dates for FAB Organized Play, and revealing new products coming to the game next year.
The official Rosetta teaser trailer offered the first looks at all four heroes and their abilities.
Rosetta Previews
While two of the heroes from Rosetta were unveiled during Nationals season, all four of the Elemental Runeblades and Wizards can be seen below.
The young version of Oscilio has 18 life while the adult version has 36. Notably, the abilities for Florian and Verdance scale down to just needing four Earth cards in your banished zone for the young versions.
Meld Cards
Rosetta introduces meld split cards that allow players to play one or both halves of the card. The cards previewed today show three cards sharing the same Shock half, while using different halves for others. The cost, defense value, and pitch value can change for the card overall, while the Shock ability remains the same.
Two more previews showed a similar function for Life, which joined Pulsing Aether and Thistle Bloom.
New Macro Card Type
Rosetta will also debut a new card type — Macros. Sanctuary of Aria is a Rosetta Macro that will start in the arena for players when they begin a Rosetta Limited format game. Macros will only matter for Limited games, which now includes Sealed Deck, Booster Draft, and Blitz Preconstructed. Limited now is defined by: Any format comprised exclusively of cards from a single set.
Sanctuary of Aria is a simple effect, allowing a player an extra source of damage prevention that doesn’t take up an equipment slot. Macros are tokens, so players don’t need to draft them or happen to open them in Sealed Deck. While Sanctuary of Aria is a small effect, Gottlieb said that future formats will see Macros that will redefine how players engage in games of Limited.
Rosetta Key Dates
Lastly for Rosetta, here are the key dates to keep note of for upcoming events.
- August 27 — Rosetta preview season begins
- September 6-8 — Rosetta World Premiere (featuring the Limited Calling)
- September 13-16 — Rosetta prerelease events
- September 20 — Rosetta release day
Product Roadmap
Gottlieb covered the Flesh and Blood product roadmap for 2024-2025, highlighting the time frames for Sets 15 and 16, four more Armory Decks, and a new product — Mastery Pack.
Very little information was given on the future sets and Armory Decks, but one of the sets will return to a region from a previous set while one of the Armory Decks will introduce a new hero to the game.
Mastery Pack
Mastery Pack Guardian is the first in an upcoming new type of product for Flesh and Blood. This mini set will feature 140 cards — most of which are new. A majority of the cards will be Guardian class cards, but all of the cards will be playable by Guardians. These products will be ideal for players who love certain hero classes. As all of the cards will be for one class and playable by that class, Mastery Pack products will be ideal for the Crack, Shuffle, Play format.
Fifth Anniversary Boosters
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Flesh and Blood, special Fifth Anniversary booster packs will be available only in Osaka, Japan during the World Championship weekend. How you can get a pack and what will be in them is still a mystery. This will be the first of many parts of the fifth anniversary celebration.
