Ask Ken, 05/06/2004
Today’s Ask Ken is written by special guest star Ben Farkas, er, we mean Geordie Tait. Uh, wait, that’s not it either… It’s written by somebody who is not Ken Krouner, okay?

Some of us are going to play in a bring-your-own-pack booster draft pretty soon, and I’m wondering what sets you think would be best to get?
Are you not winning as much because you are taking a less competitive approach to Magic or is it the other way around?
I was just wondering if there were any good places to play Type II in or around Pittsburgh.
1st pick 1st pack, I was presented with some dross, Goblin Charbelcher, Terror, Arrest, Leonin Skyhunter and Skyhunter Cub. What’s the right call here?
Rumor has it that today’s guest star might be funnier than Osyp. Rumor also has it that he might also be short, well-dressed, and Canadian. Guess you’ll just have to click on the link and make up your own mind.
It has been a long time since I wrote an actual article. And while I intend to include some strategic content, this will undoubtedly find its way into the”Issues” section. I sit here in my cubicle in my cushy state job. I sit here making more money in a week than I made playing Magic in all of 2003. I sit here with as good a benefits package as you will find in a job right out of college. I am sitting here unfulfilled.
For some reason, my limited game has been suffering terribly sinceDarksteel was released. When drafting MMM on Magic Online, I rarely ever missed the semis, made the finals about half the time, and won a handful. My rating jumped from about 1620 to 1775. Enter Darksteel. Now I’m back down to 1660. What am I doing wrong?
A draft scenario which I haven’t seen discussed a lot is when the best three cards in your first booster are of the same color. What do you do if you get Molder Slug, Deconstruct, and Fangren Hunter in your first pack?
So do I need bellow at my opponent”Any Responses To My Pump” twenty times when playing Tog, or”No Responses To The End Of Your Main Phase, Are We In Your Attack/End Phase Yet?”, or is there a cleaner, quicker way that doesn’t allow your opponent to jump through a loophole?
A friend of mine made the horrendous first pick overall of Spikeshot Goblin over the far better spell, Shrapnel Blast. I was wondering what your thoughts on the matter were, I mean, which card is better?
…Now, the only way I’m winning this game is if I can get back Pentavus with the Sword, and his only flyer is white. So I say”attack”, he taps a random myr, then I use it for mana and put the Sword on my Arcbound Stinger. He screams”judge” so loud that Mark Zajdner almost has a heart attack, and the judge of course rules in my favor. Was this a baggy thing to do?
