Looking through MTGO Daily results, I happened to notice MIRO83’s Ghostway deck, which looked pretty awesome, so I figured I’d try it out. I changed a couple cards from MIRO83’s list. MIRO83 only had four Birds of Paradise and 23 lands for mana, which felt slow to me. With a lot of card-drawing in the deck, I figured you’d want to accelerate a little more often than that, and Wall of Roots is particularly good at casting Chord of Calling, so I shaved some things to make room for those and ended up playing this:
Not a lot to say about this match. My opponent’s draw was terrible game 1, but the deck overall just had no real way to interact with my plan outside of Scavenging Ooze, and I can easily win without my graveyard or kill that, and I can easily slow them down.
Round Two
I can’t imagine Amulet is a good matchup. The sideboard felt reasonable, but I’ve basically never seen the deck fail this badly. I strongly suspect my opponent should have mulliganed more aggressively.
Round Three
This match was sweet. Being able to threaten such powerful effects with Restoration Angel, Ghostway, and Chord of Calling at instant speed makes it very easy to put blue control decks in a really tough spot. I’m pretty sure I should have won game 1 by just prioritizing lifegain a little more highly. This match ended prematurely after two games. At the end of the second game, my opponent said “ggs” and then just timed out in game 3 without taking an action. I suspect my opponent simply forgot there was another game and tabbed away or something.
Round Four
Again, my opponent was creating a trivial clock with creatures and trying to interact with removal. When I don’t get Blood Mooned out, which should be easy to avoid, it’s hard to imagine this deck stopping me from grinding them out.
