Literary Legends

What would characters from classy literature look like as Magic cards?

Last week, I let you know that this week, I’d be looking at what some characters from class literature might look like. I invited you to send in your ideas – and several of you did. Without further ado, let’s get started.

First, some suggestions from loyal readers:

From Andrew Wright:

Sherlock Holmes
WU2
Creature – Sleuth Legend
1/4
UU Tap: Remove target creature from the game that has dealt damage to another creature this turn.
"The game is afoot!"

The Raven
UB1
Creature – Bird Legend
1/2
Flying
UB, Tap: Tap target creature. That creature does not untap as normal as long as The Raven remains tapped. You may choose not to untap The Raven during your untap step.
"Nevermore"

Rosebud
2
Legendary Artifact
6, Tap, Sacrifice Rosebud: Put 3 Fading counters on target creature. That creature gains +X/+X, where X is the number of Fading counters on target creature.
"I guess no one will ever know who or what Rosebud was."

(I assume that the creature is supposed to gain fading.)

Walter Mitty
UUR2
Creature – Shapeshifter Legend
0/3
UUR: Until the end of turn, Walter Mitty loses this ability and gains all abilities of target creature.
If target creature is a Legend, Walter Mitty gets +5/+3 until end of turn.

Next, from Jon:

Yorick

0/1
When Yorick enters play, sacrifice Yorick.

Beowulf
6GG
Creature – Warrior Prince
10/10

Mr. Snrub offers these legends:

(I love this next one…)

CATS

This, from Israel Marques:

RR, Tap: Romeo deals damage equal to his power to target creature.
WW, Tap: Put a -2/-2 counter on Romeo. Target creature can neither attack while Romeo is untapped, nor block him. If Romeo is put into the graveyard from play, target creature is also placed in the graveyard.

Finally, from Chris Kinney:

Great White Whale

Whenever Great White Whale attacks, it does 1 damage to all other creatures.

To finish this up, I’ll offer a couple of my own ideas.

Hamlet, Prince of Denmark

If Hamlet leaves play, if any player controls Ophelia, Tragic Princess, that player sacrifices Ophelia.
