Tired of players who take Magic way too seriously? Want to be able to build decks using most of the cards you own? Interested in playing Magic simply because it’s fun? Then Casual Magic is for you! But what is Casual Magic, and why should you be playing it?
Sound good? We thought it might! Here’s what you need to know about Casual Magic:
1. The Casual Magic Tournament is meant for players who are interested in minimally competitive play, but do not want the stress of sanctioned events. Casual Magic Tournaments are held every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The entry fee is $3.00 and prizes are awarded as follows:
1st: $20 in store credit, useable for any singles!
2nd: $15 in store credit, useable for any singles!
3rd/4th: $10 in store credit, useable for any singles!
5th — 8th: $5 in store credit , useable for any singles!
Casual Magic is for casual players only. If you regularly make top 8 appearances in J.S.S. or Pro Tour Qualifier events, this format is not for you. If you enjoy playing decks which combo your opponent to death on the second turn before your opponent gets a chance to play the game, this format is not for you. We reserve the right to restrict entry into Casual Magic events to any player for any reason.
3. Casual Magic Tournament decks may consist of cards from all Magic the Gathering card sets (except for those which are banned — see list below), including all base and expansion sets. All promotional cards released by Wizards of the Coast are allowed, as are all Portal and Starter cards. New card sets are allowed in Casual Magic tournaments immediately upon their release! The only entire card set not allowed is Unglued.
4. All Casual Magic Tournaments begin at 11:30 a.m. each Sunday. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Rounds are 30 minutes long. We use Swiss style pairings, which means that each player plays every round of the tournament. Each round you play someone with a similar record to yours. Top 8 placement is based on records at the end of the day. Usually we’ll go for four to five rounds, so Casual Magic shouldn’t take more than three hours on any given day.

Immediately following our Casual Magic tournaments, we have non-sanctioned eight person booster drafts! The cost to enter these drafts is $12 per person (even though the price of Magic packs has gone up, our price to enter remains the same!) This fee includes entry into the draft along with three booster packs to draft with (please note that you may not participate using your own packs). These booster drafts are single elimination. However, you keep all of the cards that you draft, and additional prizes are awarded as follows:
1st Place: 5 Booster Packs
2nd Place: 3 Booster Packs
3rd/4th Place: 2 Booster Packs
It’s a pretty sweet deal, and loads of fun! If you have any questions or haven’t ever booster drafted before, please don’t hesitate to talk to a member of our staff. They’ll be happy to help you out!
