This draft was interesting because of how long it took me to get into my colors. It appears that I tried very hard to play my favourite color combination – Black Red, but the packs were just very mediocre and the Red dorks I took were nearly the best cards in each of the packs. I eventually settled into White with Magus of the Disk in pack 2, but my deck ended up being a little slow, with a bad manabase because of how long it took to figure out my colors.
I won a close first round in which my opponent mulliganed all three games. To be fair he got back the mulligan in each of those games with Nightshade Assassin. He won one of the games when I flooded and he drew Premature Burial the turn I drew Jedit’s Dragoons which would have stabilised the game.
I lost a frustrating second round. In game 1 he had an excellent draw in which he suspended Durkwood Baloth turn 1, played Jhoira’s Timebug turn 2, and suspended two Corpulent Corpses on turn 3. I didn’t play a third land until turn 5 this game, but was able to take over by chump blocking a couple times, and then creating a massive army with Endrek Sahr. I had him dead in two turns with Evil Eye of Orms by Gore, when I Mindstabbed his last card. He of course drew Tromp the Domains the next turn. In the second game I played turn 5 Endrek Sahr, turn 6 Castle Raptors, and turn 7 Jedit’s Dragoons, a draw which his removalless Green Black deck couldn’t handle. In the third game I once again failed to play lands, and couldn’t handle his combination of Undertaker and Viscid Lemures while stuck on four lands.
