P1P1 – The only other thing I could see taking here is Nacatl but Stoic seems better.
P1P6 – I wanted to take Druid here to help with the Naya Charm but the tapper is too good.
P2P7 – Fixer > Crasher.
P2P1 – I take Gargoyle here if I have anything to use it with and I still think it’s close just as a 2/3 flier.
P2P2 – Talk about a bad pack for me.
P2P4 – I was considering taking Benediction here but more two-drops is probably better.
I actually have no experience with Scourglass in a non-Esper deck so if anyone has thoughts on whether it’s still good or not feel free to share in the forums.

I decided against running Excommunicate in favor of a maindeck Sunseed Nurturer since I have lots of five-drops which also trigger the life-gain.
Round 1 was against Grixis. Game 1 I mulled as usual but had a decent draw starting with Druid of the Anima into Gift of the Gargantuan and Bull Cerodon. My opponent played Dragon Fodder and an inconsequential Infest and then died to the Cerodon. Game 2 I curved out and all he has was a Stinger and a Strix which didn’t stop my Nacatl 2 Skyward Eye and Ambusher. I finished him off with Welkin Guide from four life.
Round 2 was against Grixis again. Game 1 was very long and drawn out and after he dealt with my Mosstodon I was forced to Scourglass away his 4/4 Scavenger Drake. After this it was a real game of cat and mouse and he ended up coming out on top. I wish I could do the game justice here in a single paragraph but all I can do is summarize. We traded trick for trick for a few turns until I had him right where I wanted him after I regrew Mosstodon with Naya Charm and planned to go over the top with Welkin Guide while winning the race against his 3/3 flier thanks to Sunseed Nurturer. As it turned out he’d craftily saved a Magma Spray for Nurturer and then had Call to Heel for the Welkin Guide which allowed him to come out on top. Game 2 I had Druid of Anima into Covenant of Minds and we were off to the races. I played out Cerodon and some other fatties and won pretty easily. Game 3 was similar to game 2 except he didn’t even have early game presence. My better creatures took it pretty easily in game 3 thanks largely again to the splashed Covenant of Minds. Overall three solid games despite the fact that I mulled to 6 in all three of them.
In the finals I played against Bant. Game 1 I curved Nacatl into Skyward Eye and just started pumping on turn 4. He eventually stabilized and I dropped Topan Ascetic and then sent it to the air for the max on the following turn with Welkin Guide. Game 2 I mulled to five (again!) but he kept a marginal opener and stalled on two lands and I played out some dudes and won pretty easily.
To those of you that will obviously say in the forums that the reason I’m mulliganning so much is because I’m building my decks wrong the majority of mulligan hands I’ve been getting lately have had one land or no land. I’m near certain that I draft this format well above average (admittedly not as well as I’ve done in past formats) and just seem to be running really bad in the actual games. In this draft alone I took 6-7 mulligans and still managed to win (finally I know).
Until tomorrow…
