I again start with Sharuum which is one of my favorite rares to open. I don’t ever really see a reason to get out of Esper/Grixis although I do end up a little light on Capsules to return with Sharuum. I almost played Call to Heel and Protomatter Powder since I do like to set up Powder plus Sharuum or Gargoyle but I had enough cards that were solid on their own to mess around with that. I also wasn’t able to pick up any Etherium Sculptors since they go a long way to making Powder affordable.
Pack 2 Pick 4: Caldera Hellion was a little too Red intensive for my tastes and Skeletonize is quite strong.
Pack 3 Pick 6: As much as I hate passing card draw Bone Splinters is just better.
Round 1
G1 I beat a fairly standard Bant deck by Sharuuming back an Executioner’s Capsule.
G2 He never plays a third land so my normal draw is able to dispatch him.
Round 2
G1 My opponent has a solid B/R deck with apparently no splash. Deathraiders plus removal make this game quite short.
G2 I stumble on mana some as his two color manabase shows its superiority. I never get Sharuum or Sigil going and he doesn’t give me time to find them. Blightning plus an aggressive draw can be tough to beat.
Until tomorrow…
