Daily Financial Value Of Theros (9/16)

Ben goes over the last three Theros rares spoiled, provides you with a list of the Top 20 bestsellers, and talks about a card he thinks has potential in Standard and Modern.

Hello everyone! Welcome to the final three Financial Value Of Theros articles! The entire set is now up on the visual spoiler, so I can go over the last three rares spoiled. Just a reminder about this week’s schedule of articles:

Ok, that’s not very satisfying for a financial values article. How about we look at the adjusted Top 20 bestsellers list (divide number of rares sold by two so they equal the frequency of mythics)?

How about one last section before we talk about common and uncommon foils tomorrow?

I love this card! Let’s compare it to Tombstalker.

Tombstalker: Flying 5/5, BB6, can reduce mana cost by any number of cards in your graveyard.

Nemesis of Mortals: 5/5, GG4, can reduce mana cost by number of creatures in your graveyard. Monstrosity 5 for 7GG (also reduced by number of creatures in your graveyard).

Advantages of Tombstalker: Flying, can remove noncreature cards to reduce mana cost.

Advantages of Nemesis of Mortals: Doesn’t remove cards (so if bounced still has a reduced mana cost), costs less to begin with, can bump to a 10/10.

Scavenging Ooze will keep Nemesis of Mortals somewhat in check, but I think that we’ll often see Nemesis of Mortals coming down as a 5/5 for GG1 after a Supreme Verdict / other board-sweeping effect. Even if we’re later in the game, I think it’s realistic to have Nemesis of Mortals come down at GG and turn into a 10/10 on the same turn for GG2 or GG3. I haven’t seen a lot of hype around this card, but I believe it’s going to be a staple in Standard and should see a healthy amount of Modern play as well.
