Welcome back to my Daily Financial Value of Eldritch Moon series! From now until the full set is spoiled, I’ll be posting up regular daily updates with my thoughts about the officially-spoiled cards from Eldritch Moon!
I will be reviewing cards using the following system:
Starting Price: The first price we assign to this card as a preorder.
Current Price: The current price of the card at the time this article was written (usually by 5:00 pm the day before publication).
Future Price – Low: The lowest price I believe this card will hit while it is Standard Legal, post-release.
Future Price – High: The highest price I believe this card will hit while it is Standard legal, post-release.
The final week of spoilers is off to a terrific start! With another new planeswalker out and some more sweet mythics sprinkled in, there is no shortage of awesomeness to discuss today. Let’s get started!
Rarity: Mythic
Starting Price: $5
Current Price: $5
Future Price – Low: $3
Future Price – High: $7
Thoughts: I expect there to be a ton of hype surrounding Deploy the Gatewatch. Ever since Magic had enough planeswalkers in a Standard environment people have been trying to build Super Friends decks and now they have a tool they’d only dreamed about. For six mana, you now have the ability to produce two very significant threats fairly early in the game.
I think Deploy the Gatewatch is great and I fully expect it to retain value for years to come. From casual to competitive there is tons of room for Deploy the Gatewatch to see play. I’m not sold on it being a format shifting card that will be played in multiple decks across multiple formats and that’s why I don’t think it will break into the double digit territory. However, at its current price tag of $5 I’m fairly confident it’s a good buy if you’re looking to play with it as I don’t see it getting much lower than $5 over the next few months.
Rarity: Mythic
Starting Price: $3
Current Price: $3
Future Price – Low: $1.50
Future Price – High: $3
Thoughts: Once all of the Spider-loving Commander players secure their copies of Ishkanah, Grafwidow it will likely drop down to bulk. It’s a fine card that has the potential to see some Constructed play, but I don’t expect it to be anything more than a fringe sideboard card. If you’re super stoked to play spiders in Commander then go ahead and grab an Iskhanah, Grafwidow; otherwise I’d probably wait to pick them up as throw-ins at the trade table.
Rarity: Mythic
Starting Price: $20
Current Price: $20
Future Price – Low: $10
Future Price – High: $20
Thoughts: I’m fairly certain that Wizards has learned by now that they need to be very careful when making three mana planeswalkers. While significantly weaker than its predecessor Liliana of the Veil, Liliana, the Last Hope is still very likely to see some amount of Constructed play. With the ability to kill small creatures and stem the bleeding from larger creatures, she has a decent defensive ability. In addition to that she can help achieve delirium while “drawing” a card. When I first read her -2 ability I wasn’t too excited, but after thinking about it, it’s likely going to be “minus 2, draw a creature card” which at the end of the day is actually pretty good.
Overall, Liliana, the Last Hope is a good card that will see some Standard play, but I’d expect her to stay sub $20 while she’s in Standard.
Rarity: Rare
Starting Price: $3
Current Price: $3
Future Price – Low: $1
Future Price – High: $3
Thoughts: A three-mana Edict with an upside / future Commander staple. I don’t believe the second ability is going to be good enough to make people play Oath of Liliana over the other similar effects offered in Standard/Modern. However, I think that the initial demand from casual players will be high enough that Liliana’s Oath will remain a $2-$3 card for at least the next few months before dropping down to the one dollar range.
I could be completely wrong about this one and the ability to always have a chump blocker for your future planeswalkers could be incredible, but I’m just not sold on it.
Rarity: Rare
Starting Price: $.50
Current Price: $.50
Future Price – Low: $.50
Future Price – High: $1.26
Thoughts: A bulk rare chock full of flavor.

Future Price – Low: $1
Future Price – High: $3
Thoughts: As a 3/3 with Flash and the ability to pump your team, Spirit of the Hunt certainly has the ability to see some Constructed play. I’m not completely sold on the idea of a Standard Werewolves deck, but if they start to spoiler more of them, then Spirit of the Hunt will be the first card to go up in value. As it stands, it will likely be a fringe Standard card and a casual card, but it’s a few cards away from finding a home in a Standard deck. Spirit of the Hunt is definitely a card to think about when reading future spoilers over the next week.

Starting Price: $2
Current Price: $2
Future Price – Low: $1
Future Price – High: $3
Thoughts: The three-drop Vampire slot seems to be bursting at the seams. While Stromkirk Occultist has a great ability and works well as a madness card, it’s going to have a lot of competition making its way into a Standard deck. With cards like Drana, Liberator of Malakir and Olivia, Mobilized for War also fighting for that slot, it appears that Stromkirk Occultist will be last picked for the Vampire dodgeball team.
Rarity: Rare
Starting Price: $1
Current Price: $1
Future Price – Low: $1
Future Price – High: $2
Thoughts: Summary Dismissal is a good card that will see some amount of Standard play and tons of casual play. That being said, control players can’t go around shoving playsets of four-mana Counterspells into their deck and expect to live long enough for them to be good. I fully expect to see a few copies of Summary Dismissal appearing in decks occasionally, but nowhere near the amount required to make it break much past the $1 range.
That’s all for today! Be sure to check back tomorrow as I continue to cover the Financial Values of Eldritch Moon!
