Daily Financial Value Of Eldritch Moon: July 4th

We have a healthy quantity of new spoilers, and we need to check their value! Wes Wise gives you the updated market trends on Eldritch Moon, including the trajectory on the long-awaited new Tamiyo!

Welcome back to my Daily Financial Value of Eldritch Moon series! From now until the full set is spoiled, I’ll be posting up regular daily updates with my thoughts about the officially-spoiled cards from Eldritch Moon!

I will be reviewing cards using the following system:

Starting Price: The first price we assign to this card as a preorder.

Current Price: The current price of the card at the time this article was written (usually by 5:00 pm the day before publication).

Future Price – Low: The lowest price I believe this card will hit while it is Standard Legal, post-release.

Future Price – High: The highest price I believe this card will hit while it is Standard legal, post-release.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend! After a week-long wait, we finally got to see one of the planeswalkers, and she is a sweet one! While Wizards kind of overwhelmed us with tons of Eldrazi from the start they’re now starting to deliver the side of the set that has significantly less tentacles. Let’s get started!

Future Price – Low: $1

Future Price – High: $4

Thoughts: Collective Brutality has a lot of potential. At two mana, each of its three abilities are all pretty decent, but when you add Escalate to the equation you give yourself the ability to turn your excess lands or dead draws into something a bit more useful. Even early game, you can spend two mana and two cards to kill a creature and take a card from them – that seems all right in my book! Oh, and let’s not forget about it also acting as a madness outlet. Given all of these upsides it seems possible for Collective Brutality to see some Constructed play. If it does find a nice home I would expect it to float around the $3-$4 range. If the format shift proves to be too aggressive for Collective Brutality, then it’s likely it will fall down to the bulk-$1 range.

Future Price – Low: $.50

Future Price – High: $1

Thoughts: I love the ability on Distended Mindbender, but as far as I’m concerned it’s way too expensive to be Constructed playable. I’m hopeful that they’ll come out with a cycle of smaller creatures that are good sacrifice fodder for all of the emerge cards that they’re printing. If they do something like that then the value of all of these newly printed emerge cards can go up. Until that happens, I’m leaning towards these cards being bulk in the future.

Future Price – High: $1.50

Thoughts: I do really like Emrakul’s Evangel as a casual card. It begs to be played with all of the Doubling Season / Parallel Lives casual decks that have been popular for so long. As a Constructed card, I don’t think it will see very much play. I feel like there are much better three drops in Green that don’t require a ton of other creatures to be good. I expect Emrakul’s Evangel to be bulk for its life in Standard.

Rarity: Mythic

Starting Price: $20

Current Price: $30

Future Price – Low: $15

Future Price – High: $40

Thoughts: With all the Bant decks that have been dominating Standard over the past few months, Tamiyo, Field Researcher is certain to find a home. It feels like half the decks in Standard Top 8s these days are Bant, so I would be very surprised if this card drops below $25-$30 before the release of Kaladesh. She obviously has a very restrictive casting cost, but I don’t think that will be a problem for most Standard decks going forward.

All of her abilities are fantastic. She is able to +1 in order to keep you ahead when you have control of the board and can -2 to help you catch up. In addition, her +1 can help you cycle through chump blockers if you find yourself in a situation that calls for it. Overall I think Tamiyo, Field Researcher is a stellar card that is very likely to see Constructed play and retain its value for at least the next few months.

As Kaladesh cards start to get spoiled, if it seems unlikely that three color decks will be viable, she can and will drop very quickly. If you’re going to buy into Tamiyo now, you need to watch for that and be very vigilant if you want to cut losses.

That’s all I have for you folks today! Check back tomorrow as I continue to cover the financial values of Eldritch Moon!
