Daily Financial Value Of Dragons Of Tarkir: March 11th

Spoiler season is winding down, but the price changes are still happening all over the place! Let Ben Bleiweiss tells you what is on the rise and on the fall as we approach the Dragons of Tarkir finish line!

Only a few cards spoiled today, so this article will be a little shorter than the previous ones. Let’s take a look at what new cards we have to discuss today!

How I Review:

Starting Price
: The first price we assign to this card as a preorder.

Current Price
: The current price of the card by the time this article goes live.

Future Price – Short Term
: The price I believe this card will be at before Magic Online redemptions go live for Dragons of Tarkir.

Future Price – Medium Term
: The price I believe this card will be at by the time the next set (Magic Origins aka Magic 2016) comes out.

Future Price – Long Term
: The price I believe this card will be at a year from now when the first set of the second block of next year is released! (Remember: new block
structure! Big set / Small set + Big set / Small set is the new schedule.)

Hedonist’s Trove

Rarity: Rare

Starting Price: $0.50

Current Price: $0.50

Future Price (Short Term): $0.50

Future Price (Medium Term): $0.50

Future Price (Long Term): $0.50

This looks like a lot of fun to play with, but it is impractical for serious tournament play. The foils will likely garner interest from Commander players, but otherwise it’s a bulk rare.

Pitiless Horde

Rarity: Rare

Starting Price: $0.50

Current Price: $0.50

Future Price (Short Term): $0.50

Future Price (Medium Term): $0.50

Future Price (Long Term): $0.50

Undeniably the body is large, but two life for a 5/3 with no evasion is just a lot to pay, especially in a land where there’s a ton of ground stall going on right now. If Pitiless Horde were a Warrior (and not an Orc Berserker), I’d be a lot more high on it for Warrior decks. As it is, I view it as a bulk rare.

Changes Since The Last Article

Assault Formation: From $2 to $2.50 – Based on demand.

Avatar of the Resolute: From $2 to $2.50 – Same as Assault Formation.

Deathmist Raptor: From $6 to $7 – Continues to sell very well, price up due to demand.

Dragon Tempest: From $1.25 to $1.50 – Getting a lot of interest due to combo potential with Descent of the Dragons.

Kolaghan’s Command: From $4 to $3 – Matching market price, slow sales at $4.

Pack Value

To determine the value of a booster pack, I’m going to start with the following formula:

(2R + 1M)/121

That isn’t enough of a picture though. In fairness, $0.50 to $1 bulk rares don’t really amount to “real” value if you’re looking to trade with other
players. So I’m omitting the value of any rare that is below $2 (rounded from $1.99) and any mythic that is below $4 (rounded from $3.99).

36 out of the 53 Rares have been spoiled. Here are the ones that are $2 and up!

Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit: $3

Arashin Foremost: $2.50

Assault Formation: $2.50

Atarka’s Command: $5

Avatar of the Resolute: $2

Collected Company: $5

Den Protector: $2

Haven of the Spirit Dragon: $4

Ire Shaman: $2

Kolaghan’s Command: $3

Ojutai’s Command: $6

Sidisi, Undead Vizier: $5

Silumgar’s Command: $4

Stratus Dancer: $2

Thunderbreak Regent : $5

Zurgo Bellstriker: $3

Total Rare Value: $56

14 out of the 15 Mythic Rares have been spoiled! Here are the ones $4 and up!

Deathmist Raptor: $7

Dragon Whisperer: $6

Dragonlord Atarka: $10

Dragonlord Dromoka: $8

Dragonlord Kolaghan: $4

Dragonlord Ojutai: $6

Dragonlord Silumgar: $8

Narset Transcendant: $50

Ojutai Exemplars: $10

Sarkhan Unbroken: $30

Shaman of Forgotten Ways: $8

Shorecrasher Elemental: $8

Total Mythic Value: $155

So plugging this into the formula, we get the following:

(2R ($112) + 1M ($155) = $267

$267/121 = $2.21 value per pack, or $79.56 per box.

Let’s talk lands for a second. There are 264 cards in the set. The last artifact spoiled, alphabetically so far, is Tapestry of the Ages (#246), and the
first land spoiled so far is Evolving Wilds (#248), with only one other land (Haven of the Spirit Dragon, #249) also on the spoiler. There were 269 cards
in Khans, and the basic lands were numbered from #250 through #269. There cannot be twenty basic lands in this set (this would push basic lands into #245,
and we already have two non-basics at #248 & #249), so there are four possibilities left.

1) There are no basic lands in this set (unlikely).

2) There is one picture for each basic land in this set (unlikely).

3) There are two pictures for each basic land in this set (like with Fate Reforged) – this would put basic lands at #255 through #264.

4) There are three pictures for each basic land in this set. This would put basic lands at #250 through #264.

In scenario #4, there is room for one more non-basic land (card #247). In Scenario #3, there is room for six more non-basic lands. I don’t know if #3 or #4
is more likely, but let’s assume there is room for a cycle of non-basic lands in the set under Scenario #3. It would make sense for a two-color allied
cycle of lands to be in those slots – so the enemy-colored fetchlands are out (and honestly, I think we’re all expecting them to be in Battle for Zendikar
at this point, right?). The Ice Age painlands are also out, since Adarkar Wastes and Brushlands both can’t fit between Tapestry of the Ages and Evolving
Wilds. It also can’t be the filterlands from Shadowmoor, since Fire-Lit Thicket and Graven Cairns would slot between Evolving Wilds and Haven of the Spirit
Dragon. This would leave the following possibilities:

1) An entirely new cycle of rare lands. Under this scenario, they’d most likely be “comes into play tapped, but if you reveal a dragon or control a dragon
as you play it, it comes into play untapped.” (See tribal Lorwyn lands.)

2) The Odyssey Filter Lands fit the number crunch (Darkwater Catacombs, Mossfire Valley, Shadowblood Ridge, Skycloud Expanse, Sungrass Prairie), but I
believe that all of the names there are specific to Otaria (the plane on which Odyssey took place).

So now that I’m typing this up – I think scenario four is most likely. There’s either one more artifact or non-basic land in this set, and then three
pictures of every basic land type.
