Daily Digest: Tribal Zombies In Standard

If you want to beat an established metagame, you’d better be ready to think outside the box. Or at the very least, outside the grave! Shamble to victory at #SCGCLE!

Sultai decks have always been pretty good at getting the most out of their graveyards, but this deck takes it to the next level. Whip of Erebos is present, but we don’t even really need it. Instead, there’s a mini tribal theme highlighted by Risen Executioner. Zombies like Sidisi, Brood Tyrant and Gurmag Angler don’t necessarily need the help, but it’s nice to have anyway.

Risen Executioner is a fine beater on his own and is particularly good against the new Esper Dragons deck. If your Risen Executioners cost a bit too much to bring back, there are always delve cards like Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Treasure Cruise, and Murderous Cut to help you out. I didn’t think there could be a deck that would make such good use of Risen Executioner, but here we are.

Aside from the weirdness, the deck still functions like a typical Sultai deck, which is definitely a good thing. The sideboard could probably use some more help against Mono-Red, but I imagine the matchups against Abzan and Esper are quite good. Give it a shot!
