Daily Digest: The Return Of Mono-Red Devotion

If you want a rogue option that could interact well with the established metagame, you’re in the right place! GerryT examines this #SCGINVI option that looks into the past for future success!

We might not have Burning-Tree Emissary anymore, but that doesn’t mean Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx isn’t a huge threat. Sure, we might have to do a little more
work to turn it on, and turn 4 Stormbreath Dragons aren’t going to be the norm, but in the midgame, there are few things more powerful than using Nykthos
to create a significant mana advantage.

This deck is a little more spell-heavy than previous iterations, but that’s somewhat necessary considering most of the good devotion enablers rotated out.
Eidolon of the Great Revel does some work here, especially considering it’s going to be one-sided thanks to all the high casting cost spells in the deck.

Cards like Prophetic Flamespeaker and Ashcloud Phoenix are powerful, but haven’t really found a proper home, and this deck might finally be the place. They
provide mana symbols for devotion and hit hard, which is basically all you want out of your threats, especially when you have a bunch of removal to back
them up.

Tormenting Voice is an interesting card that hasn’t seen much play yet, but is a reasonable way to dig for lands or action, depending on what you need. In
a deck with some legendary permanents, it might be exactly what you want.
