This deck might have a legitimate shot of being a contender. We’ve already seen Jim Davis cut up various tournaments with U/W Control, and this deck, with a little tuning, could be even better than that.
Instead of relying on completely locking up the game like Jim’s deck does, this deck can play an aggro-control role with Monastery Mentor. You have a great mana sink in Mastery of the Unseen for the turns where your opponent declines to play a spell worth countering. Together, they gain you plenty of life, which allows you to ignore most burn spells.
Ephara, God of the Polis might be a stretch, but it’s certainly a good engine with Monastery Mentor and Mastery of the Unseen. Brimaz, King of Oreskos is your early wall, and Master of Pearls is your finisher. I’m not sold on Monastery Siege, but it powers up Treasure Cruise and allows you to keep the spells flowing for Monastery Mentor.
It goes without saying, but I like this deck a lot. The only thing I might change is to add some End Hostilities to the maindeck.
