Last weekend’s Modern Open was a bloodbath. The entire Top 8 took about an hour to finish. At the end, it was Burn and G/R who met in the finals.
Unsurprisingly, it was over quickly despite going to three games.
G/R Aggro is your champion, but this is part of the new school of Zoo decks that are hyper-aggressive. You don’t put Vexing Devil in your deck on accident.
The big draw of this deck is beating Lightning Bolt strategies, and this deck does this well by going wide. Cards like Burning-Tree Emissary assist in that
strategy, and with so many one-drops, it’s easy to have a huge board position on Turn 3. If you have Atarka’s Command, it might be game over.
With two very similar strategies in Top 8, it’s very likely that this deck is for real, and should be something you prepare for in your next Modern
tournament.
