Daily Digest: Lil’ Jeskai

There may be some other powerful clans running around in Standard, but none of them have proven more flexible than The Jeskai Way. See the latest Jeskai has to offer before #SCGATL!

I love this deck.

We’ve seen Jeskai transition into a bigger control deck post-board, but what about starting smaller? By playing things like Monastery Swiftspear, you’re
presenting threats that are cheaper than the removal spells that kill it. No matter how things break, you end up with a tempo advantage. In a world where
everyone is trying to beat each other in the long game, going toward Monastery Swiftspear makes a lot of sense.

Defiant Strike helps with the mini prowess theme, as does Hordeling Outburst. Goblin Rabblemaster and Mantis Rider are both present, but at only three
copies each, it’s clear how aggressive this deck is trying to be. Stoke the Flames is a much more powerful card when your curve is lower, both because of
how easy it is to convoke, but it also means it’s more likely your opponent is at four life.

I have no idea whether something closer to this or the deck that won
last weekend’s Standard Open is better in Standard, but I’m going to have a hell of a time finding out.
