Daily Digest: Lifegain Beatdown

That’s it. We’re calling the fight. We’ve had an infinite army of archetypes marching to success over the last six months, but going into #SCGDAL this weekend, GerryT thinks we’ve finally found the deck to beat.

Last week Sam Black wrote about the deck he would end up playing at Grand Prix Miami, which eventually put two copies into the finals.

Due to Brad Nelson and Sam Black both championing the deck, several great players ended up playing similar versions of what amounts to a G/W Devotion deck. However, the deck is so much more than the sum of its parts.

It has a beatdown element with Fleecemane Lion and inevitability with Mastery of the Unseen (thanks to Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx). Not many decks can claim to have such wildly diverging gameplans.

Going long, Polukranos, World Eater will defeat nearly any board positon, and Mastery of the Unseen will get you out of any sticky situation. Temur Sabertooth is a spicy one-of that works incredibly well with manifest and allows you to reset both Polukranos and Genesis Hydra.

Dragons of Tarkir may be right around the corner, but this probably the deck to beat until that set gets here.
