It’s been a tough season for our good pal Thunderbreak Regent. With the mana being so good, everyone has Crackling Doom. On top of that, there’s little reason to play Draconic Roar over Fiery Impulse or Wild Slash when everyone is cutting Mantis Rider.
Christopher Juliano and Dan Ward don’t care about any of that, as they both took R/B Dragons to excellent finishes at the #SCGINVI. However, their builds differ. Juliano has some Atarka Red-like aggressive draws with Monastery Swiftspear and Zurgo Bellstriker, while Dan’s is a more controlling deck with Hordeling Outburst and Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker.
Juliano even goes so far as to play Exquisite Firecraft! It’s very clear that his deck is less interested in going toe-to-toe in the card advantage fight against Jeskai Black. His use of Wild Slash over Fiery Impulse further solidifies that claim.
Both decks look great, so if you’re looking for something a little different that’s actually solid against the top decks in Standard, I urge you to try one of these. I know I will.
