It’s been a long time since Khans of Tarkir came out, yet this is the first major finish for a Warriors deck. Joe Soh took his W/B version all the
way to the finals of #GPKobe.
His deck features the normal suite of Warriors, but it’s the non-Warrior stuff that finally puts this deck over the top. First of all, we have a reasonable
manabase. In fact, the mana is so good that there’s no real need to play the full amount of Shambling Vents. We have Polluted Delta that can fetch white
mana in the form of Prairie Stream, and Flooded Strand that can fetch black with Sunken Hollow. That manabase also allows you to splash counterspells out
of the sideboard.
Silkwrap, Stasis Snare, and Mardu Woe-Reaper all contribute to exiling cards, which in turn makes Wasteland Strangler into an excellent card. Valorous
Stance is also present, which goes to show how creature-heavy Standard is right now.
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar has already proven his worth and is an excellent top end for a deck like this. More copies would likely be welcome, but since
Mardu Strike Leader is likely getting dashed more often than not, the four mana slot is already a tad crowded.
If you’ve been looking for a solid aggro deck in Standard, but don’t want to play any of the Atarka Red variants, here’s your deck.
