Daily Digest: Chasing Mavericks

Gerry looks at an intriguing twist to an old Legacy staple that many have left by the wayside lately – check out what changes it took to bring Maverick back to viability!

For the most part, Maverick has been replaced by Death and Taxes, which makes a lot of sense. As it turns out, it was basically the white cards that were responsible for all the winning. As such, Maverick has mostly fallen off the map, aside from those incorporating stuff like Thoughtseize and Abrupt Decay, further blurring the lines between Legacy decks.

Today’s deck revitalizes Maverick in an entirely new way: with Natural Order!

Terastodon and Ruric Thar, the Unbowed are no strangers to Natural Order decks, but where’s the Progenitus? What the hell is Elderscale Wurm doing here? Primeval Titan to set up Dark Depths / Thespian’s Stage? Sign me up!

The mopey Mother of Runes are gone but Knight of the Reliquary and Green Sun’s Zenith are still here, providing a wide toolbox. Perhaps Androod wanted his Natural Order targets to be searchable for Green Sun’s Zenith via Gaea’s Cradle also? That would make a lot of sense.

As is the case with this column, this deck is crazy. But I mean that in the best way possible.
