Grand Prix Singapore brought us another Collected Company archetype, but it’s not really the focal point of this archetype. Instead, this deck abuses sacrifice outlets like Viscera Seer and Cartel Aristocrat alongside Blood Artist to deal lethal damage.
Doomed Traveler and Tukatongue Thallid provide cheap things to sacrifice for value. Voice of Resurgence is like the best Tukatongue Thallid of all time. With all the Doomed Travelers, a sac outlet, and Return to the Ranks, you could have a lethal army (or lethal damage with Blood Artist) very early.
Abzan Ascendancy is an odd card, but it basically turns your entire squad into Doomed Travelers, plus it pumps the things you already have in play. Return to the Ranks and Collected Company allow you to go wide, which is where Abzan Ascendancy also shines.
Let this be a lesson to you – you don’t always need to assemble an infinite combo, as getting a bunch of value is often enough. Ken Yukuhiro did just that, and now we have yet another option for Collected Company in Modern.
