Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC), take a look at the second new planeswalker arriving in Kaldheim — Tyvar Kell!
Coming in at four mana and three loyalty, Tyvar immediately impacts a battlefield packed with Elves, allowing each of them to be tapped for black mana.
Tyvar’s +1 ability is very powerful, allowing you to untap any Elf you control. Using mana generated from a card like Elvish Archdruid to cast Tyvar and then using his +1 to immediately untap it, effectively makes casting Tyvar free. Plus, even if you’re unable to take advantage of the free mana generation, the untapped creature still has +1/+1 and deathtouch, making it a great blocker to protect Tyvar.
In the off chance you cast Tyvar without a way to take advantage of his +1 ability right away, this zero ability helps to build your battlefield and/or give Tyvar additional protection.
Unlike many recent planeswalkers, Tyvar’s ultimate ability doesn’t necessarily end the game on the spot, but it certainly has a good chance to. If Tyvar survives long enough to ultimate, having even just one mana-generating Elf to cast could be enough to set off a chain of game-winning events.
