Hive Mind is currently used as a combo kill involving the various Pacts from Future Sight, but I haven’t seen anyone attempt to use it outside of
a pure combo shell. This deck attempts to use that kill as a clean win condition in their control deck, resulting in a smooth combo-control concoction.
People have tried to build various Jeskai or Esper Control decks, but none of them seem to last long. Ending the game is actually a pretty big issue,
especially in a format with Thoughtseize, Liliana of the Veil, and cheap removal. None of your creatures seem to stick, and none of the planeswalkers are
impressing anyone. Moving away from a permanent-based win condition that can be interacted with is certainly an appealing direction to go.
The main weakness of this deck is that Hive Mind is counterable no matter what you do since there isn’t a Boseiju, Who Shelters All variant you can Tolaria
West for. Trying to resolve a six casting cost, sorcery speed win condition is no easy feat in Modern. However, there are multiple Pact of Negations, which
can help you force through Hive Mind through a bunch of Remands.
I wouldn’t mind seeing another juke in the sideboard, such as Monastery Mentor, but most of the sideboard space is taken up by anti-Burn cards, which is
definitely warranted.
