Daily Digest: Outpost Siege Has Two Modes

The title says it all: there’s more than one way to wield an Outpost Siege! GerryT likes this Standard deck, which puts the less used mode of the Siege to its full potential!

With all the various sacrifice outlets and payoff cards, you would think there would be a Tier 1 Aristocrats deck. This deck has two things going for it that the other decks don’t: Temur Battle Rage and Outpost Siege.

The B/U Aristocrats deck from the Pro Tour used Whirler Rogue to set up a combo kill with Nantuko Husk, but there’s no reason you couldn’t do that with Temur Battle Rage. Also, if you’ve just got the Nantuko Husk and no way to get through, the “dragons” side of Outpost Siege might be able to help you get break through their battlefield. If you wanted more Zulaport Cutthroats (which apparently this deck didn’t, considering it only has two), Outpost Siege is probably what you should be looking at.

Mardu Charm is kind of nice. Sometimes the deck needs to protect itself against a sweeper or opposing Temur Battle Rage, so being able to have a Duress effect without actually playing Duress is nice. Other than that, it’s a fairly normal looking Aristocrats deck. Remember that you can raid Bloodsoaked Champion in combat multiple times with Nantuko Husk!

I like the fact that Aristocrats is a grindy deck that eventually overwhelms people, and Outpost Siege fits both of those roles. When I’m building these decks in the future, Outpost Siege will likely be a large part of my strategy.
