Red Gets Mana Hungry Dragon In Leyline Dragon

Red’s newest mythic Dragon shares powerful ability with another mythic from long ago.

Courtesy of Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and Brian Kibler, check out the latest mythic dragon from Zendikar Rising — Leyline Tyrant!

As a four-mana 4/4 flyer, Leyline Tyrant already draws the eye. Factor in a couple rarely used abilities in Magic history, and you’ve got the ingredients for a sure-fire Standard-shaping mythic dragon.

You don’t lose unspent red mana as steps and phases end.

An incredibly powerful ability tacked onto an efficient body makes Leyline Tyrant a scary threat on its own. As turns go by, the controller gets to build up red mana and save it for any number of game-breaking spells. Whether it be a Fireball effect, another creature or planeswalker, or even just activating an ability on a card already on the battlefield, big things are sure to come if Leyline Tyrant stays on the battlefield.

When Leyline Tyrant dies, you may pay any amount of R. When you do, it deals that much damage to any target.

Build up a bunch of mana but didn’t find any action from your deck? No problem! Leyline Tyrant has you covered even if it dies by converting that red mana into damage that can go anywhere you want. If the Dragon stays on the battlefield long enough, your opponent is going to die one way or another.

Leyline Tyrant operates similarity to Omnath, Locus of Mana from Worldwake. So that extra mana you generate stays with you even as turns change. And once Leyline Tyrant leaves the battlefield, that mana will only stay in your pool until the end of the current phase.
