This deck was insane thanks to getting my first pick right, and opening and getting passed a lot of very good cards. I’ve recently started to really like Green cards because I think I’ve figured out how to draft them.
I lost a very frustrating second round of this draft. I beat a decent Black/Red deck in the first round. In the first game he double mulliganed and I had a very good draw and ran him over despite him buying a turn and getting a two-for-one with Sudden Spoiling. Game 2 I didn’t think I could lose, but then he drew a bunch of very good spells in row after having no hand. Then it was my turn to topdeck, and I drew Triskelavus on my last turn to steal the game back.
In round 2 I played against a mediocre Blue/Black deck. In the first game I ran him over, as it seems I should, looking at our decks. Game 2 I kept a hand of five land, Thelon, and Strength in Numbers. My thinking was that I have a bit of early game action, and all my best cards are pretty expensive and his deck should give me time to draw into them. I was given a decent amount of time, but unfortunately I drew only lands until it was way too late. Game 3 I mulliganed into a hand of Mountain, Durkwood Baloth, Firemaw Kavu, Goblin Skycutter, Lightning Axe, and Sudden Shock. I felt that my chances of drawing lands were better than my chances of winning off a mulligan to five on the play. It took me a couple turns, but eventually I drew a second land and stabilised. In fact I was about to take over the game when I got to six mana, but he of course drew Mindstab the turn before I got there.
