Pete Ingram won the Regional Championship at SCG CON Baltimore with Mono-Green Broodscale on Sunday.

Ingram saw his Top 8 chances flash before his eyes when he was paired into Devoted Druid Combo in Round 14 right after losing to it on camera in the feature match area in Round 13. The overwhelmingly bad matchup for the top deck of the weekend wins blisteringly fast games, especially against minimal disruption, but Ingram wasn’t going down without a fight. He found all the removal his deck had to offer in Game 3, leading him to a victory that clinched his berth into the RC Top 8.

An intentional draw in the final round of Swiss pushed his record to 12-2-1, earning him the No 7 seed, leading Ingram to set his sights on a Worlds invite after locking up a Pro Tour qualification — something he has chased since competitive play returned after Covid. Ingram opened the quarterfinals with a 2-1 win against Aaron Schwarcz on Esper Blink in a grueling match. He followed that up with a 2-0 victory against Brett Kroeger in the mirror, leaving him one last match against Curtis Lam in the finals.

Lam, the No. 1 seed who started the event 13-0 by feasting on Broodscale players with his trusty Devoted Druid Combo deck, awaited Ingram in the finals and looked to notch his ninth-straight win against Mono-Green Broodscale.

Lam finally appeared vulnerable in Game 1 when he missed his second land drop, allowing Ingram to remove a crucial Delighted Halfling and snowball his advantage to a 1-0 edge in the match. Lam’s deck cooperated in Game 2 and punished a greedy keep from Ingram, forcing a deciding third game. Ingram, on the play, had a bunch of removal and ramp thanks to multiple copies of Kozilek’s Command which allowed him to slow down Lam and land an early Emrakul, the Promised End. When Ingram was finished taking Lam’s turn, Lam’s battlefield was in ruins and all he could do was draw a card for his next turn and concede the match.

Ingram took home $20,000 and the title of champion, while Lam earned $10,000. The Top 32 finishers earned invites to the upcoming Pro Tour in Detroit, though Ingram and Lam also punched their tickets to the World Championship in 2027.

Mono-Green Broodscale claimed the No. 1 spot in the metagame with 172 of the 1,494 players sleeving up the powerful Eldrazi combo deck. Izzet Prowess, the top deck from Magic Spotlight: The Hobbit™, fell to No. 2 while Esper Goryo’s, Esper Blink, and Izzet Affinity rounded out the five most-played archetypes.
