Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has updated the legality timing for Mystery Booster Commander Edition for all formats other than Commander.
Blake Rasmussen announced on today’s Weekly MTG stream that the next iteration of Mystery Booster will not be legal for Legacy and Vintage until January 1, 2027. The set will still be legal for Commander starting November 13, following its release at MagicCon: Atlanta.
Rasmussen said that because of card availability due to how Mystery Booster Commander Edition will release through batches at future MagicCons, WotC doesn’t want to run into an issue where cards might be needed for the upcoming Eternal Weekend events if players can’t get their hands on the cards. With Eternal Weekends in Japan and Italy on November 28-29 and December 3-6, respectively, players would have to scramble to acquire new cards if anything from the set impacts Legacy or Vintage.
Mystery Booster Commander Edition will rollout at the following events, with more still to be announced.
- MagicCon: Atlanta: November 13–15
- MagicCon: Detroit: February 26–28, 2027
- MagicCon: Tokyo: May 14–16
- MagicCon: Las Vegas: August 27–29
- MagicCon: Amsterdam: December 3–5
