Following preview season tradition, Magic Head Designer, Mark Rosewater, has shared a list of teasers for the upcoming set — Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Shared to his Blogatog, Rosewater leads with a list of “things you can expect” to see in the set. The standouts include mention of a red card with a Blood Moon effect, a card with affinity for Allies, and a sorcery-speed land destruction spell that costs 1R. Also included were a few of the types of counters we’ll see in the set: Stun, finality, double strike, fire, conqueror, and quest.
Next up, we have some of the rules text included on cards in the set. Here are a few of the most interesting:
- “You may reveal a Lesson, Saga, or Shrine card.”
- “where X is the number of permanents you’ve sacrificed this turn.”
- “Whenever an opponent searches their library,”
- “where X is the number of permanents you’ve sacrificed this turn.”
The world of Avatar has plenty of iconic characters, so naturally its Magic set has just as many unique creature types to match. Among the non-legendary creature types, we have Cat Armadillo, Bird Assassin, and a wild combination to have on one card, Boar Elk Bird Ox. As for legendary creature types, we have Human Monk Ally, Elder Cat Turtle, Shapeshifter Spirit, and Human Warrior Performer.
Rosewater concludes his teaser by unveiling the names of several cards in the set. For any Avatar fans reading, let us know if any of these card names stand out to you:
- The Unagi of Kyoshi Island
- Unlucky Cabbage Merchant
- Yip Yip
- Jasmine Dragon Tea Shop
- Day of Black Sun
